Winter Haven Heritage
Winter Haven Heritage meets on the
first Wednesday
of each month (see schedule below),
September through May,
at
10 a.m.
in the Multipurpose Room at the
Winter Haven Public Library. Sponsored by
the Friends of the Library, all meetings are
free and open to the public.
Begun first as a writing group to encourage
long-time Havenites to preserve memories of the
1930's and 40's; those writings collected were
incorporated into four booklets:
These booklets can
be found in the Library's Reference Department.
Some of our members have had their memories
published in local newspapers and the
"Quarterly," published by the Polk County
Historical Association; one member even has a
newly published book dealing with old Florida.
However, we have discovered that it's just fun
to talk with old friends and reminisce about the
"good old days," so talking, listening and
remembering consumes most of our gathering time.
At
present, guest speakers from the organizations
that have helped Winter Haven grow are invited
to present a written history or report to add to
our collection of historical documents.
If
you're interested in Winter Haven history,
