The Information Commons

Ribbon Cutting & Dedication

The Library has moved forward with its goal to increase digital literacy skills in the community with the new Information Commons.  This technology area will include computers for public access and the new Science, Exploration, Education, Design (SEED) Lab.  Both projects are made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Winter Haven Library and the Estate of Elaine Zaborowski.

The ribbon cutting and dedication took place on Saturday, May 10.  Dick Madaus, Jane Marting and Mayor Nat Birdsong acknowledged Elaine Zaborowski and her generous gift which made the Information Commons possible.  They also spoke of what the SEEDLab has to offer and the benefits to the community.

The dedication was followed by demonstrations in the SEEDLab and a technology petting zoo, allowing people to actually get on a computer or Chromebook.  The City of Winter Haven's IT Department demonstrated some of the cool technology that relates to young people.

Food and drink (and evil deserts) were provided as well.
