Library Programs
Pre-school Story Hour
is held on Tuesday & Wednesday
mornings at 10 am from September through April. Story
hour consists of reading stories, puppet shows, and
sing-a-longs.
Excellence in Reading
is a very successful
program at the library. Children read specific books and
are tested on a computer. There are a set number of
books to read and prizes awarded along the way.
Florida Library Youth Program
is a State Library
of Florida sponsored program. This program is conducted
throughout the summertime for children of all ages.
Activities include: puppet shows, performer,
storytellers, & arts and crafts.
Mailing
List.
The PolkLib mailing lists allows patrons
to receive emails from the library about upcoming events
and provides a forum to discuss current issues with
library staff.

Computer Classes.
Basic computer classes are offered
the first and
third Friday of the month at 10 a.m. from October -
May. Topics vary from
learning how to use the Internet, to becoming familiar
with the parts of a computer. Brenda Hodge,
City of Winter Haven Technology Services Department
teaches the class, extending a new topic each month.
Poetry Live!
is a family event celebrating the artistic expression of
poetry. Every third Tuesday of the month, poets and
poetry lovers gather for Poetry Live night. All are
welcome to attend, readers and listeners. Readings begin
at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Meeting Room. Light
refreshments are served.

Saturday Afternoon Movies.
Enjoy free movies every second and fourth Saturday of
the month, in the Library’s movie theater. Movie titles
vary each Saturday, ranging from documentaries to
popular films and even local, independent films.
Refreshments are available for a small fee. All movies
begin at 2 p.m. and are held in the Multi-Purpose
Meeting Room.
Winter Haven Heritage Writers Group.
Meeting the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m.,
participants discuss their personal experiences living
in Winter Haven. A guest speaker guides the discussion
exploring the history of Winter Haven. Personal memoirs
and pictures are collected in a scrapbook housed in the
Reference department of the Library.
